ROOTS – NRK Development Initiative is a Government promoted company under the Department of Non Resident Keralites’ Affairs (NORKA), Government of Kerala to act as a counsel for the Non-Resident Keralites and to provide social security for the NRK and his family. A company formed under Section 25 of the Companies Act, it is the implementing agency under the NORKA Department. The Company has been planning and implementing various schemes and projects for the NRKs and the returnees.

A major area where ROOTS is presently concentrating is that of enterprise creation with the active participation and investments of NRKs and Returnees. Towards this endeavour, ROOTS is organising a two-day meet with the objective of promoting entrepreneurial skills and to channelise NRK resources. The event, structured in the form of an ‘Enterprise Avenues Exhibition’ is scheduled for September 17 and 18, 2004 at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor stadium, Cochin. ROOTS has short-listed six core sectors to be showcased in the meet based on the immense potential supplemented by frequent queries received from NRK community. Through the meet, ROOTS proposes the formation of a grand alliance of associated agencies working in various capacities in the chosen sectors. Such an alliance will form a cohesive unit to manage post-meet operations and ultimately channelise NRK initiatives in the state. The proposed meet engages the top priority of the Government of Kerala, which has already initiated steps to ensure considerable participation of NRKs and returnees in the meet. The timing of the meet is so fixed as August-September months experience an increased inflow of NRKs. ROOTS is making elaborate arrangements using its vast database of more than 3500 NRK contacts and 600 NRK associations to ensure their participation in the meet.

Considering the importance of the endeavour and its long-term implication for the State’s economy, I request you to kindly co-operate with us for the successful conduct of the meet in various capacities like sponsorship and participation in the meet. Specific arrangements have been made for one to one discussions with potential NRKs, coordination with allied departments and facility for exclusive showcasing of services/offers that are specific to NRKs.
