Animal Husbandary

Animal Husbandary is the agricultural practise of breeding, caring and raising of livestock. As such, it is a vital skill for farmers, and in many ways as much art as it is science. Animal Husbandary plays an important role in creating opportunities for augmenting income and employment in the rural housholds in Kerala.In otherwords this sector has huge potential for alleviating poverty and unemployment in rural areas. Animal Husbandary sector in Kerala in the last three decades has been spectacular and inimitable. The state also houses a diverse livestock wealth.

Horticulture

In the distant past, Kerala was known as a society, which had agriculture as its chief occupation and source of income. A variety of the state's produce from rice and coconuts to spices and condiments were much in demand, in Kerala and abroad. The paddy fields of Kuttanad and Palakkad anf the rubber and spice estates of central Kerala played an active role in maintaing the food and financial security of the states and its people.

Ayurveda

Ayurveda, meaning the 'Sience of Life' originated in India long back in pre-vedic period. Ayurveda texts like Charak Samhita and Sushruta Samhita were documented at about 1000 years B.C. It deals elaborately with measures for healthy living during the entire span of life and its various phases. It also developed a wide range of therapeutic measures to combat illness. These principles of positive health and therapeutic measures relate to physical, mental, social and spiritual welfare of human beings. Thus ayurveda becomes one of the oldest systems of health care dealing with both the premitive and curative aspects of life in a most comprehensive way and presents a close similarity to th WHO's concept of health propounded in the modern era.

IT & IT ENABLED SERVICES

Anyactivity carried out based on the application of information technology could be termed as IT enabled services. In other words IT enabled services cover the entire range of services which exploit information technology for empowering an organization with improved efficiencyor a type of service which may not be possible to be rendered cost effectively without IT. IT enabled services are functions and servicesthat are provided from a country different from the one where end-products are delivered. IT enabled services are delivered over telecommunication or data networks(wire line and wireless); are either externally contracted(outsourced) or provided by a remote subsidiary of the same company(out located).

Tourism

Kerala has emerged as the most acclaimed tourist destination of the country in the recent past. With the Arabian sea on the west, the western ghats towering 500-2700m on the east and networked by fourty four rivers, tourism in Kerala has emerged as one of the few alternatives to developthe state economy. It has been recognised as an important sector for development on account of its potential for generating income and employment. Realising the importancfe of tourism in stimulating the economic development of thestate. The Government of Kerala declared tourism as an industry in 1986.

Entertainment

In 2001, films were accorded ‘industry’ status by the Government of India making it eligible for film financing from banks and financial institutions while the Industrial Development Bank of India(IDBI) set up the country’s first film fund worth Rs100 crores. Cable television is the largest revenue earner with television broadcasting in second place and film third, followed closely by television production. The future primary drivers for the entertainment industry will be growth in GDP, changes in demographic and the adoption of digital technology by the industry.
