NON RESIDENT KERALITES WELFARE AGENCY (NORKWA)    

The field Agency – NORKWA – under the Non Resident Keralites Affairs Department, Government of Kerala, has been formed for  addressing certain important issues connected  with Non Resident Keralites such as rehabilitation of returnees, rendering assistance in the field of housing, education, welfare, healthcare etc., to Non Resident Keralites and dependents.  Such an Agency can plan and execute imaginative schemes with the assistance of Government, supplemented by the resources and expertise of Non Resident Keralites.  The Agency could also become an effective co-ordinating body between various Agencies that are relevant to NRK issues and harness the resources of Non Resident Keralite community for the economic development of the state in General.

MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE NORKWA

 

  1. Establish close links with expatriates belonging to the State of Kerala and Malayalee Associations around the world and create comprehensive data base of individuals and associations.

  1. Set up information station to co-ordinate interaction and information dissemination to NRK world wide.

  1. Facilitate the planning and implementation of specific schemes for the welfare of NRKs and their dependents in sectors like housing, education, healthcare etc.

  1. Co-ordinate with other agencies and department in designing schemes and programmes for the benefits of NRKs and persons who have returned to Kerala after working outside the state.

  1. Set up or assist joint ventures with NRK individuals and firms for setting up projects in the growth sectors.

  1. Conduct local and international seminars, conferences and workshops to focus on the potential for NRK investment and set up employment ventures.

  1. Establish or assist in establishing educational institutions aimed at improving facilities available for education of  children of NRKs.

  1. Establish and run offices in different parts of the State of Kerala to provide the facilities offered to NRK at easily accessible points.

  1. Encourage and assist the educational, recreational and cultural activities of organisations formed by NRKs in India and abroad.

  1. To establish and maintain pension funds for the benefit of NRKs.

  1. To do or get done all such other lawful things and undertake such activities that are conducive or incidental to the furtherance and attainment of the welfare of NRK community.

 

PROPOSED ACTIVITIES  

In the immediate future, NORKWA propose to launch the following schemes. 

§         Pension Scheme

Solely aimed at the peaceful & serene retired life from the service abroad, based on a corpus where contribution can be made by both the NRKs and the Government of Kerala. 

§         Insurance to Returnee Migrants  

Ø    Social security insurance coverage in the event of accident death or in the case of permanent disability due to accident. 

Ø    Medical Insurance Scheme covers expenses for Medical Treatment of returnee migrants and their families. 

Schemes are implemented in association with Kerala State Insurance Department. 

§         Pravasi Welfare Fund

To extent relief and assistance in real hardship to the deprived people among NRKs. 

§         NRK investment bank

An institution for secure investment and capital support for NRK ventures. 

§         Satellite Township (NRK Heritage Home)

To possess a home in Kerala in such a Township will exude a dream of an egalitarian world of charm, sense of social security and will integrate into a harmonious community life. 

§         NORKWA Shipping corporation

An attempt to recuperation of ancient glory of our homeland to promote tourism and cultural exchange and also for overcoming the burden of souring airfares. 

§         Migration Monitoring Study

For assessing world job market in the coming 20 years and for studying the necessity of super skilled training and to streamline migration of skilled workers. 

§         Institute for Global Manpower Experts.

For framing super skilled experts for placement in Foreign Countries. 

§         District Pravasi Sanghoms

To promote entrepreneurship, self-sustained group ventures of NRKs in each districts; formed in 14 districts. 

§         Project initiative fund

Aimed at building investor confidence and to ensure professional structuring of projects.  Also covers a part of infrastructure development expenses
